Frequently Asked Questions

Family and Individual Support

What is a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP)?

A Licensed Educational Psychologist is a professional who specializes in understanding how children learn and develop. LEPs conduct assessments to identify learning differences, strengths, and areas for growth, helping families navigate the educational system.

What types of assessments do you offer?

I provide comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and IQ assessments. Each assessment is tailored to your child's unique needs and helps identify their strengths and challenges.

How is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) different from a district evaluation?

A district evaluation is conducted by school-based professionals who follow district guidelines and procedures. An IEE, by contrast, is performed by an independent evaluator who is not employed by the district. This independence often allows for more flexibility, more time spent with the student, and the use of different tools or approaches. The goal is to offer a thorough second opinion that may provide new insights to support the student’s learning and development.

When can I request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?

You have the right to request an IEE when you disagree with the results of a school district’s evaluation of your child. An IEE can be requested after the school has completed its own assessment, not before. In these cases, the IEE provides an independent perspective that may either confirm the district’s findings or highlight additional areas of concern that were not fully addressed. You get to choose the evaluator for your child’s IEE. I provide these evaluations and would be glad to discuss how the process works and what it can mean for your child’s support. Contact me with any questions or to learn more about requesting an IEE.

Who pays for an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?

The school district is responsible for covering the cost of an IEE, but this must be approved prior to the evaluation taking place.

How long does the assessment process take?

The assessment process typically begins with a 30-minute free consultation to discuss your concerns. After that, the actual assessment timeframe varies, depending on the type of evaluation. I’ll keep you informed every step of the way.

What can I expect from the assessment report?

You will receive a detailed report outlining your child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and specific recommendations for support. This report serves as a valuable tool for advocating for your child’s needs in the school setting.

Can you help with IEPs?

Absolutely! I offer consultation services to help you understand and navigate the IEP process. We’ll review any existing IEPs and discuss strategies for effective advocacy to ensure your child receives the support they need.

What should I do if I suspect my child has learning differences?

If you suspect your child is facing learning challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out. A consultation can help clarify your concerns and determine the best course of action for your child’s needs.

Who can benefit from your services?

My services are designed for children of all ages who are facing learning challenges, need support with executive functioning skills, or require assessments to understand their unique learning profiles.

How do I prepare for the assessment?

Once you schedule an assessment, I’ll provide you with information on how to prepare. Generally, it’s helpful to gather any relevant school records and information about your child’s learning history.

How does Executive Function Coaching work?

My Executive Function Coaching program lasts 8-10 weeks and focuses on helping your child develop essential skills like organization, time management, and focus. Together, we’ll set personalized goals and implement strategies tailored to their needs.

What geographic areas do you serve?

I proudly serve families in Ventura County, including cities like Camarillo, Moorpark, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and more, as well as select areas in LA County, including Agoura Hills and Calabasas.

How much are your evaluations?

The cost of evaluations can vary based on the type of assessment and specific needs. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss rates in detail to ensure transparency.

How do I schedule a consultation?

You can easily schedule a free consultation HERE.

Can you provide a diagnosis?

Yes, as a Licensed Educational Psychologist, I can provide diagnoses for learning differences, psychological disorders, and other related conditions based on comprehensive assessments.

Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, private educational assessments and coaching services are typically not covered by insurance. Therefore, we do not file insurance, but we can provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

School District Support

How can you support school districts?

I partner with districts by consulting on complex or unique cases that may benefit from an outside perspective. I also provide professional development for school psychologists and counselors, helping them build skills, gain confidence, and become even more effective in supporting students.

How do you support professional development for school psychologists and counselors?

I offer tailored professional development designed to strengthen the skills and confidence of in-house school psychologists and counselors. This can take the form of workshops, case consultations, or ongoing coaching, depending on the district’s needs.

Training topics may include:

• Improving IEPs
• Interpreting complex data and writing clear, actionable reports
• Supporting executive function and social-emotional development
• Collaborating effectively with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS intervention)
• Dyslexia screening and intervention

Professional development is not “one-size-fits-all.” I adapt each training to the district’s goals and the experience level of the staff, ensuring it is practical, engaging, and directly applicable to their daily work.

The outcome is a stronger, more effective team of professionals who feel equipped to support students with a wide range of needs.

How do you support school districts with complex cases?

I provide consultation for districts when a case presents unique challenges or requires an outside perspective. This may include reviewing assessments, observations, or IEPs, and offering recommendations that balance both the clinical and educational needs of the student.

In these situations, I work closely with school staff to identify strategies that are practical, evidence-based, and aligned with the student’s individual learning profile. My role is not to replace the work of in-house professionals, but to strengthen it, bringing an independent lens that can help clarify next steps.

Districts often find this support valuable in cases involving:

• Students with multiple or overlapping diagnoses
• Disagreements or uncertainty about evaluation results
• Students whose needs have not been fully met through prior interventions

The goal is always collaboration in order to provide district staff and families with clarity and to ensure that students receive the most effective support possible.
